Hi, my name is James. Helping students succeed is one of my lifelong professional goals. My doctoral dissertation focused on this very area. I take a very friendly, highly supportive, and research-based approach to teaching and tutoring. I have dedicated much of my career to empowering others through teaching and tutoring because I enjoy it enormously. I treat every student I work with as an individual and pay careful attention to their individual strengths and areas in need of improvement. Here is a quick overview of some of my experiences: --I have 15 years of writing and reading tutoring experience in the tutoring centers of various colleges in New York City (Hunter College, Berkeley College, The College of Staten Island). --I wrote my doctoral dissertation on the process of getting students ready for college level writing. --As part of my doctoral degree, I was trained how to identify reading difficulties and correct such difficulties in struggling readers. --I have taught courses in reading and writing skills, critical reading and writing, business writing, research and writing, composition, and literature at St. John's University, York College, Berkeley College, and Metropolitan College. --After graduating college, I taught as an assistant English teacher in Japanese middle schools for one year.
