Isidora V.
Private tutor in Great Neck, NY
Education
I graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art in 2011 as an instrumental major (3.7 GPA). I recently finished my undergrad at New York University where I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance (3.8 GPA).
Experience
During my undergrad at NYU I was an America Reads/America Counts tutor. I tutored students individually and in groups in Math and Reading/Writing, working with both Elementary and Middle School students (1st, 2nd, and 8th graders). It was a very rewarding experience to help students understand and master concepts they were struggling with. My approach as a tutor is to have the student first learn through self-discovery rather than by rote in order to develop a deeper understanding of a concept and learn how to apply it elsewhere. In teaching piano my approach is also very similar: through inquiry I have the student learn how to listen attentively and develop good practice habits. My goal is to make lessons engaging while laying a solid foundation in technique and musicianship in every student. I believe it is important to form a well rounded musician so that the student can have a deeper knowledge and therefore enjoyment of music for the rest of their life.

Hobbies
In my spare time I love listening to music whether it be on a recording or live on a concert stage and going to art museums when I can. I also enjoy doodling! I love drawing geometric patterns and am constantly exploring combinations of different shapes and colors. Being a very visual person myself, I try to incorporate visual aids into my teaching/tutoring as much as I can.
