Experience

Greetings! I am a New York based teacher/tutor who graduated with honors in English Literature from Williams College in 2012. After graduation, I spent my years working in schools, nonprofits, and community arts organizations. I am passionate about education and creativity! I have years of diverse experience tutoring and teaching English, math, public speaking, creative writing, and dance to middle, high school, and college-aged students. I have also served as a writing tutor for students working on college essays and other high stakes applications. I've worked in rural and urban schools in Massachusetts, New York, Boston, and South India as a teacher, small group tutor, private tutor, and facilitator. I work especially well with students who are creatively minded, high achieving, sensitive, shy, lacking confidence, and/or severely behind grade level. I absolutely love teaching and highly value the individualized attention tutoring allows me to give to each student. My approach is holistic: I believe in nurturing the whole person so he/she can flourish in the classroom of the world. I believe in fostering curiosity, confidence, and voice in my students. I am a deeply compassionate and energetic tutor/teacher who truly believes in every one of my students. Please contact me for additional information, rates, and references. Thanks!

Hobbies

If I could've majored in something called Interdisciplinary Studies, I probably would have! While my heart is grounded in literature, my passions span the arts (performance, visual, film, music, dance, writing, and more!), philosophy, psychology, sociology, the hows and whys of current events; in short, everything that goes into understanding the lived human experience! I have a background in dance and was the drill sergeant and choreographer for Williams' step team. I've continued my study of movement post-graduation, and am currently taking classes in ballet, modern, hip-hop, capoeira, yoga, and movement research. In addition to dance, I explore my understanding of the world through poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction writing. I have also recently started to work in mixed media art, and am beginning social practice art work throughout NYC. Finally (as my prior experience shows), I'm strongly connected to issues of social justice and reform. I work hard in my life to merge my passions with ways to foster communities and help people grow, thrive, and support one another. I also try to live an environmentally friendly life, and certainly a people friendly one! In a city so whirling in chaos, I find that sometimes it can be a radical thing simply to smile, or even to lend a true listening ear to a friend. I try to do both every day :)
