Objective I have always been interested in education and teaching (thanks to a particularly inspirational 4th grade teacher), helping friends with homework and studying for tests since middle school. But in the past two years I have had the pleasure of actually working with programs that have allowed me to really try teaching. As an intern with an eco-theater collective called Superhero Clubhouse, I worked on their Big Green Theater program, where we teach fifth graders about various ecological issues and then help them write plays about those issues, which eventually are performed by professional actors. This summer, I also worked as a teaching artist at a performing arts camp, stage managing a production of Sweeney Todd with 18 middle and high school students. These experiences have taught me that I like teaching because I like making a connection with an individual student. Being able to see their moments of clarity as well as confusion excites me, makes me feel able connect with them on a deeper level than just repeating facts at them.
